Arco lamp Terra Castiglioni Flos
ARCO Floor Lamp 1962 project: Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni 1962 production: Flos floor lamp with direct light, it fulfils the need for direct lighting on a table without having the constraint of the fixed light point to the ceiling. The base of the lamp consists of a parallelepiped of white marble of about 65 kg, the corners are bevelled, equipped with a hole practiced in the center of gravity, useful both to the fixing of the vertical stem that supports the actual arc, both to the easy movement of the lamp (by inserting for example a simple broom handle). The arched stem is made up of three sections in stainless steel sections with a U-section able to allow, by sliding one inside the other, the telescopic advance and the hidden passage of the wires. This gives the arc more amplitudes, with the positioning of the reflector at three different heights. The dome is formed by two pieces: one fixed in the shape of a perforated shell to facilitate the cooling of the lampholder (100 watt bulb in opal glass), the other a movable aluminium ring, resting on the first, so that it can be rectified in position, depending on the height of the third sector of the arc. The maximum distance, in horizontal projection, of the reflector from the base is 2 m, the height from the ground is 2.5 m. The arc has undergone in many years of production flos the only modification of the electrical system, to uniforme the apparatus to the current standards. Sold in thousands of exemplars, evenly broken down between Italy and abroad, has suffered heavily the phenomenon of plagiarism, on which the company has been able to intervene in legal ways only in cases of copy and misuse of the denomination. In 2007 the court recognised the protection of copyright, as is the case for works of art, even to a design object.
